2009 Cross Country Synopses:
FIRST MEET: OAK MOUNTAIN INVITATIONAL
What an incredible way to start the season at Oak Mountain XC Invite. Both varsity girls and varsity boys brought home FIRST PLACE trophies as well as the junior varsity boys. Junior varsity girls brought home second but had some outstanding finishes.
SECOND MEET: MEMPHIS TWILIGHT
Despite the muggy weather conditions the girls and the guys performed well. Varsity Boys finished 5th, Varsity Girls finished 8th, JV Boys finished 4th, and congratulations to the JV Girls who finished 3rd.
THIRD MEET: CHICKASAW TRAILS
Congratulations to both the boys and girls teams for finishing 3rd
FOURTH MEET: UF MTN DEW INV
This was an incredible course located at the University of Florida Golf Course, but the heat and humidity presented unfavorable odds. However our Varsity Boys finished 2nd out of 38 schools and our Varsity Girls finished 9th out of 31 schools. David Hudman made his debut and finished 3rd overall with an excellent race.
FIFTH MEET: ASTRONAUT INVITATIONAL
This was another great course which included a loop around a pond full or aligators. WE were very lucky that this meet had an early start because by the time the races were over the sun was baking down and temperature was in the mid 90's. Congratulations to our Varsity Boys and JV Boys for finishing in FIRST PLACE. Varsity Girls finished 7th and JV Girls finished 4th. Once again David Hudman led the pack finishing 3rd overall in the Varsity Boys race.
Throughout the weekend there were so many outstanding personal accomplishments that there is no way to pick specific ones. Please look on Cross Country schedule page for complete results. We had an incredible weekend and tons of fun. It was the trip of a lifetime for most of us!!!
SIXTH MEET: MOUNTAIN BROOK INVITATIONAL
Despite the initial threat of bad weather we stayed dry and had some incredible accomplishments. Congratulations to the Varsity Boys for finishing in FIRST PLACE with a huge victory over Mountain Brook and for David Hudman, Bryan Propst, and Philip Harvey for finishing 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. Congratulations to the JV boys for finishing second and to Zac Boswell for winning the JV Boys race and Ryan Shannon for his season best time. Both Varsity and JV Girls finished second and persevered through a tough course.
SEVENTH MEET: JESSE OWENS INVITATIONAL
This was a huge meet with a record number of entries. Congratulations to Varsity Boys for finishing 3rd despite Bryan Propst having to sit this one out due to illness and to the JV Boys for also finishing 3rd and the JV Girls for finishing second.
OUTSTANDING PERSONAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Varsity Boys: David Hudman 7th-16:08.12, Philip Harvey 16th-16:35.50, Austin Taylor 24th-16:52.93, Matthew Bryant 34th-17:05.52, and Jake Owen 41st-17:11.89
JV Girls-Mazie Merriman 2nd-22:17.79 and Katie Phillips 5th-22:52.32
EIGHTH MEET: SE XC SHOWDOWN
Rainy conditions set up for an interesting race but the grounds and markers and volunteers were incredible. Congratulations to the Varsity Boys and JV Boys for finishing SECOND. The girls team had some personal best but look forward to a hard week of practice and a better meet next week!
NINTH MEET: WAFFLE HOUSE INVITATIONAL OXFORD, AL
What a weekend we had. All four teams took FIRST PLACE. JV Boys came away with a perfect race led by Graham Pugh. David Hudman, Bryan Propst, and Philip Harvey took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respectively in the Varsity Boys race followed by Matthew Bryant (5th), Jake Owen (6th), and Patrick Rooney (7th). JV Girls also came away with a perfect race led by Maddie Moore. Varsity Girls were led by Hannah Sharrow who placed SECOND and Laura Smith (4th), Emalee Butler (6th), Caroline Marsh (7th), and Kitty White (10th). Congratulations to all four teams!!!
