First outdoor meet of the season is the book and Hoover looked great.  Guys took 1st by an overwhelming landslide and the girls finished in 3rd despite the absence of 4 or 5 key athletes. You can find detailed results at alabama runner and soon I will post the meet highlights.

We also had great performances despite the severely cold weather at the JV Meet at Mountain Brook on Wednesday.  Stay tuned for full list of results.

                        Hoover Elementary Track Meet Information  

When?  Monday, April 26th, 2010—4:30 to approx. 8:00 p.m.  (Rainout date:  Tuesday, April 27th—4:30 p.m.)

 

Who? Any 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th grader in the Hoover City School system

 

Where?  Hoover High School Track

 

Awards?  Each finisher/competitor will receive a ribbon for their event with their time/distance recorded on the ribbon.  We will not be keeping track of finishing places for individuals or schools. 

 

Costs?  There is a $14 entry fee per student.  This will cover the costs of a meet t-shirt, ribbons and entry for all friends and family.

 

Entry deadline?  All entries and entry fees must be received by 3:30 p.m. on Monday, April 19th.  This is so t-shirts can be ordered and arrive on time.

 

Primary Purpose?  To expose as many young athletes to the wonderful sport of track and field as possible.  Emphasis will be on sportsmanship and striving for the best effort possible for each individual athlete.

 

Sponsored by?  The Finish Line which is the booster club of the Hoover High School track team.  All meet officials will be members of the Hoover track team as well as coaches and parents of the high school track athletes.

 

How do I register?  Fill out a registration form and return it with your entry fee to the staff/parent helper from your school.  They will in turn make sure the forms and money get to Coach Devon Hind at Hoover High School by the entry deadline.  Checks should be made out to “The Finish Line” or to “HHS”.

 

What events are there and at what time will they be occuring? 

Running Events: (girls will compete first in each grade division)

 

4:30                         55 meter hurdles                      5th then 6th

4:50                         1600 meter run                        4th then 5th then 6th

(boys and girls run in same race)

5:30                         50 meter dash                          3rd

5:45                         100 meter dash                        4th then 5th then 6th

6:20                         800 meter run                          3rd

This schedule is estimated.  It will fluctuate depending on the number of entries received.  Events will begin as soon as the event before it is finished.

How many events can I do?    3rd graders—maximum of 3 events

                                                4th, 5th, 6th graders—maximum of 4 events

 

Check-In?  All athletes should be prepared to check-in to the site of their event 30 minutes prior to the start of their event.  An announcement will be made over the PA system for athletes to check-in.

 

Concessions?  Drinks, candy, pizza and other various items will be available for purchase at the track.

 

Uniform?  Each athlete should wear the official meet t-shirt provided to you and a pair of shorts of your choosing.
